Orangutans under Study

As of 2025, a cumulative total of 81 individual animals have been observed, with individuals coming and going over time.
Among them, females and younger individuals living around the survey area have been continuously monitored throughout their growth stages, including birth, independence from their mothers, reproduction, and childbirth.
On the other hand, males tend to leave the survey area once they grow and become independent from their mothers, often moving to wider areas. In addition, adult males typically roam across a broad range and only stay temporarily in this region, making long-term monitoring difficult.
Therefore, the records of males are limited to the periods when they were actually observed within the survey area.
Against this background, the 21 individuals observed between 2023 and 2025 are introduced below (mother and offspring are counted as one individual).

※Zones 1 to 5 represent the areas most frequently utilized by each individual within the BRL grounds.
However, due to the wide-ranging behavior of orangutans, they may also move across different zones.
